AFC Leopards picked up a priceless 1-0 win at home to Tusker in an FKF Premier League tie at the Thika sub-county Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In what was supposed to be an effortless win for Tusker after especially after reinforcing their squad with 12 new signings, turned out to be an afternoon to forget as the defending champions were condemned to a painful loss by a solitary goal.

The win by itself is a surprise, coming from Ingwe, a side that has lost several high-profile players (among them ex-captain Robinson Kamura, Elvis Rupia, Hansel Ochieng, Collins Shichenje, Clyde Senaji, Benjamin Ochan, John Oyemba) without any signings.

Sudan international Musa Saad tapped in the all-important goal in the 19th minute after a fine pass by winger Peter Thiong’o as the 1998 Kenyan Premier League champions lifted the lid off the new season with a win.

The win at the den coming despite AFC Leopards not having trained for three days in demand for their salary arrears.

Tusker had a chance to redeem themselves in the 62nd minute after Lewis Bandi brought down Boniface Muchiri in the box.

Muchiri who was tasked with levelling the scores from the spot for the Brewers sent his shot wide as new Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat watched on.

The win which was masterminded by assistant coach Tom Juma is expected to serve as a morale booster for the emaciated AFC Leopards squad.
