Atlético Portada Alta have confirmed their 21-year-old coach Francisco García has died having tested positive for coronavirus and suffering from leukaemia. The Spanish tactician had been the coach of the Malaga based club’s Infantil A side for the last four years.
García was only recently diagnosed to have leukaemia, with such an pre-existing condition placing him at great risk from the Covid-19 virus, which has continued to spread throughout Europe. Malaga CF, who ply the second division in Spanish football also expressed their condolences to Garcia’s friends and family in a short message on Twitter, stating: “From the club, we want to convey to Atlético Portada Alta our deepest condolences for the loss of one of their coaches, Francisco García, as well as send a warm hug to his family and friends. Together we must stop Covid-19.”
Spanish football’s major leagues have all been shut down indefinitely in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus, with 9,190 cases recorded in the country to date and 309 fatalities.
