Elite marathoner Eliud Kipchoge beat Hellen Obiri, Samuel Mushai and Nyaga to retain the Sports Personality of the Year Award in the concluded SOYA awards held in Mombasa, Kenya on 25th Jan 20
Kipchoge who last year became the first person in the world to run 42KM in under 2 hours, crowned the overall Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year at the 16th edition of the awards held at Mombasa Sports Club.

Elsewhere, Harambee Stars midfield mastereo Johanna Omollo downed Peter Ong’ondo of cricket sport, Erick Kimayo (athletics) and Bernad Makumi (football) to win the 2020 SOYA Awards Community Hero winner.

The awards Galla which was conducted in Mombasa for the second time in a row saw Omollo bag the award through his Johanna Omollo Foundation situated in Dandora-Nairobi.
Besides being a community Icon, Omollo who formed part of Sebastian Migne squad that was toppled out of AFCON 2019 in Egypt, is a well decorated player at international level as well as professional bar.

The 31 year old was last year presented with the $25,000 FIFPRO Merit Award for 2019 for the same work his foundation. This involves providing young footballers, both boys and girls with scholarship opportunities to enable them to continue with their education while perfecting their sporting talent;
