AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems was elated by his troops by bouncing back from a 1-0 midweek defeat to Mathare United to win 2-1 against Wazito FC on Saturday afternoon.

AFC Leopards were already trailing the moneybags 35 minutes into the showdown at Utalii Grounds, after Michael ‘Wise’ Owino got to the end of an error by Ingwe custodian Benjamin Ochan.

The 1998 Kenyan Premier League champions however put up a match winning performance after the break, much to the delight of their Belgian tactician.

“Like the last game, we made a very good performance, we were just punished by an individual mistake. And I told the players, guys keep playing because it is our place. I saw we kept playing, we had a lot of opportunities. And even if we scored at the end it is totally deserved,” Aussems said in a post-match interview.

The former Simba coach revealed that the showing is a rehearsal of next weekend’s showdown against archrivals Gor Mahia in the FKF Betway Cup final.

The two sides face off in the final at Ruaraka Grounds with the winner representing Kenya in the CAF Confederations Cup.

“It was also in the expectation of next week. I wanted people to work 45-60 minutes, after that you make some substitutions. Sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes everything is going well. I hope that on Wednesday and on Sunday we have the same chance,” he offered.

Ingwe are third on 40 points, two above Gor Mahia and four adrift leaders Tusker, 21 matches into the season.
