Western Stima’s pursuit of top tier football next season received a shot in the arm following a 2-1 victory way to defending champions Gor Mahia on Saturday afternoon, in what is their third win of the FKF Premier League season.

The Powermen who are embroiled in the relegation battle were treated to a flying start at the Thika Stadium, as Rodgers Ouma slotted home from a Barron Oketch just four minutes in.

The game went into the break with Abdallah Juma’s side leading by a single goal, but were treated to a nervous restart after Ouma was sent off for dissent, just six minutes after the intermission.

K’Ogalo defender was at fault just before the hour mark, fouling Oketch in the area as Michael Karamor stepped up to double the lead from the spot.

Gor Mahia head coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto was smelling defeat, and in bid to avoiding a dent on their recent fine form called on to his substitutes, Fred Nkata coming on for John Macharia.

Eighty-two minutes gone, Gor Mahia halves the deficit as Geoffrey header overpowered Stima’s Stephen Ochieng to have the score line read 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Barron Oketch who assisted Stima’s first goal and won a penalty for the second was named the man of the match.

Gor Mahia drop to fourth on 38 points, as archrivals take third spot on 40 points following a 2-1 comeback win over Wazito.
