Defending champions Gor Mahia won 1-0 at home to Nairobi City Stars to rise to sixth on the Betking Premier League standings on 22 points, after 14 rounds.

Abdoul Karim struck the solitary goal at Nairobi’s Utalii Grounds just after the half hour mark to hand K’Ogalo their seventh league win of the season, as Simba wa Nairobi finished the game with ten men after Erick Ombija was sent off in the 76th minute.

The loss leaves City Stars 12th with 17 points from 16 games.

Elsewhere, Nixon Omondi and Lawrence Juma were on target in the second half to hand 2009 league champions Sofapaka a 2-0 win over visitors Wazito FC at the Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta.

Omondi was at the end of a fine Juma cross to head in the opener in the 72nd minute before Juma got on the scoresheet himself after being set up by an Ambrose Sifuna through pass in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.

Sofapaka rise to ninth on 19 points from 15 matches as Wazito fall to seventh on 22 points from 15 games.

The united duo of Mathare and Vihiga played to a barren draw at Ruaraka Grounds.
