Kenya international Joseph Okumu has sealed a permanent move to Belgian side K.A.A Gent from Swedish top tier outfit IF Elfsborg bringing to an end the speculation that has marred his future in Boras.
Kenyan Breaking KE can exclusively reveal that the 24-year-old lanky center-back has signed a four-year-deal after sealing a 3.5 million Euros move.
Elfsborg and Okumu’s representatives have been in talks with the Belgian side and the deal was sealed on Friday after demands by all the three sides involved in the deal were met.
“It is true that Joseph has been given permission to visit a new club and get acquainted there,” said Elfsborg manager Stefan Andreasson said after their 2-0 loss to Malmo on Saturday which Okumu missed.
The Harambee Stars man is now the third Kenyan to sign for Gent after his compatriots Robert Mambo (2000) and John Muiruri (2001).
The Kakamega High school alumnus joined Elfsborg in August 2019 following his exploits at the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and has made over 40 appearances for the club.
Kenyan Breaking KE can authoritatively report that Danish side Midtjylland, French duo of Lorient and Reims and Scottish heavyweights of Rangers and Celtic all tabled their bids for the Kenya international who now heads to Belgium.
Okumu who has been tipped as a future Harambee Stars captain has played for Kenya’s Chemelil Sugar, Free States Stars of South Africa and American side Real Monarchs.
