The 2020 Euro Championship has been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus scourge that is threatening to ground the world, the sports sector not spared.
The Norwegian Football Association reports that the continental showpiece which is staged after every four years was to be held this year from 12 June to 12 July across 12 countries, will have to wait for at least a year.
“UEFA has decided that the Euros should be postponed until 2021. It will be played from 11 June to 11 July next year,” The Norwegian FA tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.
Wembley was due to host seven matches at Euro 2020, including the semi-finals and final.
The postponement frees up a month to try and finish club competitions that have been suspended across the continent among them respective leagues, Champions League and UEFA League but the women’s European Championship scheduled for 7 July to 1 August in England next year remains another headache.
