It all started with banters on social media, visitors Bandari throwing the first fist towards an unsuspecting Western Stima, all in the love for the beautiful game of football.

“Teren! Teren! Kitu muhimu zaidi hapa duniani hufanyika kama tumezima,” Bandari posted on their Facebook Page accompanied by a public notice by Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) notifying Kisumu residents of a power interruption on Friday, the same day for the Western Stima-Bandari showdown.

Western Stima could not resist the invitation to take Bandari head on hours before the real kick off time.

“Ushawahi pigwa ngumi ya katikati ya mapua Kwa Giza? Shauri yako,” Stima’s rejoinder read.

In the end there was no winner, be it on social media or on the field, the two FKF Premier League sides played to a one-all draw at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

The affair in the lakeside city was a difficult one, no goal until after the break when Ken Odhiambo broke the deadlock in Stima’s favour, six minutes after the restart.

Staring at a second consecutive defeat, Bandari head coach Andre Casa Mbungo opted for a triple substitution in the 62nd minute- in came Benjamin Mosha, Umar Kasumba and Wilberforce Lugogo as Darius Msagha, Danson Chetambe and Yema Mwana walked off.

It only took four minutes for the move to pay off, former Sofapaka striker Umar Kasumba firing home to level the scores.

In bid to reclaim the lead, Stima’s Abdallah Juma also opted for a double change in the 70th minute, James Ogada and Laban Otieno paving way for Edwin Odhambi and Promise Chinonso but not much was witnessed as the game came to a close tied at 1-1.

Bandari who winless in the last four outings remain sixth on 28 points from 18 games as Western Stima move a place up to 15th on 13 points after round 18.
