Kwale Ladies from Kwale and Malindi Action from Malindi will on Monday battle it out in the girls finals while Kaya stars from Kaloleni will face off with Yanga from Malindi in the boys Coast Regional Finals of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom tournament at Bomu Stadium, Mombasa County.
Kwale Queens booked their slot in the finals after beating Kaloleni Starlets 5-4 in a penalty shootout. Kanzo Jumanne opened the scoresheet for Kaloleni Starlets in the 16th minute but Kwale Ladies drew level with an equalizer from Omondi Milka at the 42nd Minute.
The second half ended with neither team able to find a winner, taking the game to post-match penalties where Kwale Ladies won 5-4.
“We started out on the wrong footing having conceded a goal in the first few minutes of the game, but thankfully, we were able to equalize after changing our tactics to win in post-match penalties, “Said George Ojwaya, Kwale Ladies Coach.
In the boys’ semis, Kaya Stars beat Young Muslim from Mombasa 2-1 while Yanga from Malindi overcame Young Gunners from Tana River 4-3 in post-match penalties after the match ended 1-1 in normal time.
“I have high hopes of winning the finals knowing how Kaya stars play. I will restructure my game play and improve the team’s technique by bringing on board some of my fast players to help us secure a win, “said Abel Bellamy, Yanga FC Coach.
KES 200,000, a host of individual prizes and a chance to represent the region in the national finals set for June 2020 is at stake for the four teams, with the finals set for Sunday evening at the Bomu Stadium. The runners up will pocket KES 100,000.
At the end of all the regional finals, an all-Star team comprising of 16 girls and 16 boys will be selected to attend a 10-day training camp in Spain during which they will play friendlies against top Spanish La Liga Football Academies.
