Lesotho has finally confirmed its first case of covid-19, a pandemic that has literally condemned the entire world to its knees.
Lesotho’s Ministry of Health broke the news on Wednesday making the South African nation the last to be the last country to be afflicted by the novel virus.
The single infection was registered from the 81 covid-19 tests done on persons who had travelled from Saudi Arabia and neighbours South Africa.
The coronavirus tragedy has hit at a time when Lesotho is facing political uncertainty; Prime Minister Thomas Thabane expected to step down before the end of the week after his coalition collapsed in parliament.
It is unclear when he will step down, although parliament has already provisionally named Finance Minister Moeketsi Majoro as his replacement.
His exit would clear the way for a solution to a political crisis that erupted late last year, when he and his current wife were accused by police of murdering his former wife nearly three years ago. They both deny the charges.
