The Matiang’i family is celebrating another state appointment, this time into the Ministry of Education.
John Matiang’i, the brother to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has been appointed the Deputy Director of Education just days after his resignation as the national treasurer of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
Matiang’i applied for a transfer from the Teachers Service Commission to the Ministry, Education CS Prof. George Magoha has confirmed.
“The ministry has no objection to the officer’s request since there is a vacancy for Deputy Director for Education, Job group ‘R’/CSG,” the CS said.
Matiang’i has been keen to assure Kenyans on social media that he will remain committed to his duties despite the transition.
“This is not a decision to exit public service Even as I transition from KNUT, I remain committed to my obligations as a public servant,” reads a post on his Facebook page.
The vocal trade unionist worked as a teacher for 14 years, before joining KNUT in 2008 as Branch Executive Secretary rising to the position of the national treasurer until his resignation.
Matiang’i is not new to plum state jobs, in August 2020, he was, along with three others, appointed to the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees by Treasury CS Ukur Yattani.
