The 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season is entering homestretch just as fast as Kakamega Homeboyz lead at the summit is being cut by defending champions Tusker.
The league has only seven games left and Homeboyz have seen their lead at the summit trimmed to six points from ten points two weeks ago after record back to back draws.
Even as Abana Beingo recorded two draws against Sofapaka and another against Kenya Police FC Tusker drew only once and won the other two to take their points tally to 49 points after 27 games with Homeboyz in the lead with 55 points.
A potential title decider is up on May 7, Tusker playing host to Homeboyz but head coach Bernard Mwalala who is enjoying a first debut season, has downplayed the talk of a title slip.
“I don’t think today’s outcome has affected our title bid. Yes, we have dropped points but the one point we managed in this match is equally crucial for our title charge,” Mwalala said.
Kakamega Homeboyz last seven games are against KCB, Tusker, Gor Mahia, Kariobangi Sharks, Mahia, AFC Leopards, FC Talanta and Wazito.
According to Mwalala, the Kakamega-based outfit will take a game at a time to ensure a triumphant finish to the season.
“This is a marathon race and we can’t rely on a single match in our bid for the title,” Mwalala added.
Kakamega Homeboyz played to a 2-2 draw away to Kenya Police last Sunday and are next at home to Wazito this Sunday at the Bukhungu Stadium.
