Four people have perished after a matatu they were travelling in collided head on with a lorry at Man Eaters in Taita-Taveta on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
According to reports the accident that has left scores nursing serious injuries occurred when the driver of the matatu attempted to overtake another vehicle on the busy highway.
Kenyan Breaking understands that the matatu was ferrying passengers from Murang’a for an event at Pwani University in Kilifi on Thurday.
The casualties were rushed to the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi for treatment as the bodies of the deceased rest at the facility’s morgue.
Confirming the incident, Taita Taveta Police Commander Saidi Kiprotich has issued a rallying call to drivers and all road users to be more vigilant and observe traffic rules to minimize road carnage.
Kiprotich also issued a warning to companies overstretching their drivers to the extent of wearing out hence posing a threat on the roads.
