Kenya has recorded the highest number of covid-19 infections in a single day after the country announced 57 new cases on Sunday.
The announcement which was made by Government Spokesperson Col. Rtd Cyrus Oguna indicated that the cases which are spread across the five counties of Mombasa (35), Nairobi (17), Kajiado (3), Kwale (1) and Kitui (1) were recorded after 2,198 samples were tested.
“Thirty-four of the positive cases are males, and 23 are females. The youngest of the cases is two years old while the oldest is 61 years. Cumulatively, we have so far tested 43,712 samples,” the statement reads in part.
Kibra recorded the highest number of cases in Nairobi ,9, Eastleigh and an unnamed quarantine centre has two new cases each while single cases were recorded in Aga Khan Hospital, Kamulu, Dandora and Pangani.
The 35 cases in Mombasa are spread through the estates of Mvita (22), Likoni (4), Changamwe (3), Nyali (3), Kisauni (2) and Jomvu (1).
According to the government, 12 Tanzanian truck drivers tested positive for coronavris-11 at the Lunga Lunga border and one at the Taveta border and were consequently referred back to Tanzania after being denied entry into the country.
Kenya now has 887 confirmed cases of covid-19, with 313 recoveries after 12 more patients were discharged from hospital after shaking of the disease. The number of fatalities still stands at 50.
