The Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Eugene Wamalwa has urged all the county government to set aside emergency strategies and money to curb unforeseen calamities like droughts and locusts that has crippled some counties starting from last year.

Wamalwa while speaking at the Movenpick hotel, Westlands Nairobi during the inauguration of governor Oparanya as the CoG chairman , has reiterated the efforts of the national government in working with counties for the betterness of all citizens.
” So hope going forward this year, will be a better year than last year, but for the leadership in chair of governor Oparanya for coming year, our support is given .”

On that note CS Wamalwa has urged the two houses of the government, National Assembly and Senate to first track and pass the disaster management bill, ” We need a very structured way of dealing with disasters, both levels of governments, and when we do it in a structured way we will be able to overcome. ”

The devolution CS said the many calamities that suffocated many parts of Kenya last year among them floods, drought and recent locusts has been caused by climate change.


The Kakamega governor Wycliff Oparanya has been reelected to be the chairman of council of governor for the second term outstanding Mandera governor Al Roba.


Oparanya will be deputized by Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria as Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni retains the position of chief whip leader
