[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A 35-year-old man was on Thursday sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting his wife in Kangemi Nairobi.
Dan Ochieng is said to have seriously beaten up and injured Caren Awino, his second wife, upon learning that she had two other children (daughters) but had all along hid it from him.
Caren who has a one and half-year-old child with Ochieng says her husband got angered after she requested for 500 shillings to send back home for the upkeep of her two children in the village.
The statement recorded at Kabete Police Station adds that he angrily turned down the request saying she cannot feed other men’s children and an argument ensued that led to her beating.
On top of the jail term, Kibera Law Courts by resident magistrate William Tulel also slapped the accused with a 50,000 shillings fine on noting that he was not remorseful.
In a drama like development though, Caren pleaded with the authorities to allow her withdraw the case leaving the office of the director of public prosecutions with the powers to make the decision, which the ODPP is yet to use.
