Kisumu County Referral Hospital is on the spot again after a 23-year-old man died after while queuing for more than three hours before receiving medication.
The middle aged, Edwin Odhiambo who is a boda boda rider at Kolwa Road collapsed after waiting for long with the recklessness of nurses being the main cause.
Odhiambo who had been unwell for three days admitted to the nurses at once that was very ill and requested to go to the casualty area but they were asked to queue.
According to the deceased’s family, the queue was long and Odhiambo had to wait alongside other patients as nurses who demanded that his blood samples be taken before he could be attended to, kept them waiting.
The hospital’s Health Administrative Officer Francis Ayugi has however denied the allegations saying patient did not die due to doctors’ negligence as laboratory test were underway when Odhiambo died.
Ayugi said nurses were in the process of preparing Odhiambo to have him taken to the ward at th same time accusing the family of bringing the patient at the last minute.
“A patient was brought in critical condition and died at the outpatient room while being resuscitated,” Dr Ayugi said, adding that Odhiambo had respiratory distress.
