Thirty-eight police officers have been put in quarantine for violation of the dusk to dawn curfew regulations by the government.
Speaking before the Senate Ad Hoc committee on Covid-19 pandemic, Interior CAS Hussein Dhadho also revealed that 10 army officers had also been forced into quarantine on similar grounds.
According to Dhadho, the total number of security officers in quarantine is 52 after three more additions from the prison officers and one from the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
“The police service is focused on ensuring the law is dully followed without violating the rights of Kenyans, despite the few violations that have been reported,” the CAS told the committee chaired by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
The committee was however appalled by the decision by the interior ministry to field the CAS instead of CS Fred Matiang’i whom they have summoned four times without success.
Matiang’i is required to appear before the committee next week to explain the brutality unleashed on Kenyans by police officers.
