Famed for its tag- Kenya’s sweetest sugar, Kabras has been in the headlines for all the reasons-good and bad- but probably what stands out more is its irresistible sweetness, to the extent of a few illegally acquiring and hording a few bales of the sweetness.
Two people have been arraigned in Industrial Law Courts today for stealing 700 bales of Kabras
Adili Din and Francis Gachanja have been charged with stealing goods in transit, contrary to
section 279[C] of the penal code. The two are said to have stolen the sugar from a motor
vehicle that was leaving Timsales Nairobi, a West Kenya Sugar Company Limited store.
Appearing before chief magistrate Francis Andayi, the two were charged with stealing goods
worth 1,452,500 with the help others from a vehicle that was leaving West Kenya Sugar
Company store to Tusker Mattresses head office, Embakasi along Mombasa Road.
‘’ on the 15 th of February 2019 at unknown place and time between the store of West Sugar
Company Limited, Timsales, Industrial Area within Nairobi jointly with others not before court,
stole 700 bales of Kabras Brandy sugar, property of West Kenya Sugar Company Limited valued
Ksh. 1,452,500 from a motor vehicle registration number KCF 261F that was in transit from
Timsales West Kenya sugar company store to Tusker Mattresses head office Embakasi,
Mombasa Road,’’ read the charge sheet.
In their defense the accused denied charges against them and requested bail which was denied
as the prosecution requested for more time to carry out investigation.
Meanwhile the two will remain remand in industrial area and their case will be heard on 15 th
The accused were arrested on 23 rd august 2019.
